Bone Grafting
The success of a dental implant, it's ability to support a dental restoration, is very much dependent upon how much bone is available in the site where the implant is placed. There are many ways in which bone grafting can be done. Sometimes it is as simple as collecting bone when preparing an implant site and then reusing the bone for grafting purposes. This is called Autogenous bone grafting and is the Gold Standard for graft materials. The reason for its use is due to the absence of immunologic reactions, cell viability and the decreased time required for revascularization, resorption and replacement. Often bone collected from other sources can be used such as from other people, animals or increasingly popularly from artificial sources.
